Driven Partridge Shooting in Scotland
Scotland is becoming more and more popular for partridge shooting with many estates and land owners planting areas of game cover crops on suitable moorland and releasing substantial numbers of red legged partridges onto the hills often in response to temporary reductions of grouse numbers. On shoot days the birds may be driven over the disused grouse butts providing a very similar experience to grouse shooting.
Most estates provide days from September to late October as they progress into the pheasant season and as the harder weather arrives the partridges are encouraged down into the lower ground and mix with the pheasants to produce a real mixture of sport. However, larger estates do provide days throughout the season.
A daily bag of about 100 - 200 birds for eight guns are most common for driven partridge days but larger days are often available.
Estates can normally produce no more than two driven days consecutively so for parties looking for three or four days it is recommended to speak to a Sporting Agent who will be able to create a package of sport to suit your individual requirements.
